Dr. Rigel has dedicated his career to advancing skin cancer research and patient care. The co-developer of the ABCDs for the diagnosis of early melanoma, his over 300 research studies, papers, and textbooks have saved lives worldwide.
Through his service as President of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the American Dermatological Association, along with leadership roles in other organizations and a lifetime commitment to professional and public education, Dr. Rigel has helped shape the evolution of the specialty and built a legacy of future leaders in the field.
Established through a generous donation from Dr. Rigel and the Rigel Family, this Professorship advances the UT Southwestern Department of Dermatology's work in research toward preventing, diagnosing, and treating skin cancer, in patient-centered care that saves lives, and in training the next generation of leaders in this field.
